GETTING TO KNOW POPE FRANCIS : TENTH POST

Image
This Post originally appeared on 13th April, 2013 under the title "What about Papa?     Keep Calm and Pray".

There are some Posts I would prefer not to write. This is one of them. But if one is to be credible more broadly, it is necessary to address difficult issues - even when one would prefer to remain silent.

" UBI PETRUS , IBI ECCLESIA" is one of those fundamental Catholic phrases that encapsulates an essential truth. " Where there is Peter, There is the Church". It is true in multiple ways. Yes, where we find the teaching of the Pope we find the teaching of the Church. And physically, where we find the Pope, we find the heart of the Church. In so many ways, as members of Christ's Church we are oriented toward , and bound in Faith and love to the Successor of Saint Peter in our spiritual life.

Does this mean that we believe each and every Pope is a person who is perfect - never makes a mistake at all, or an error of judgement? Does it mean that we …

The Vatican Information Service has announced Pope Francis' second Episcopal Appointment from Cardinal Ouellet's bulging file:

Vatican City, 5 April 2013 (VIS) – Today, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Gintaras Linas Grusas as archbishop of Vilnius (area 9,644, population 830,000, Catholics 547,000, priests 169, religious 249), Lithuania. The archbishop-elect was born in Washington, DC, USA in 1961, was ordained a priest in 1994, and received episcopal ordination in 2010. Most recently he has served on the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference as secretary general and as Military Ordinary of Lithuania. He succeeds Cardinal Audrys Juozas Backis, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit.

It is good to see the " mills of God" grinding again. Let us all pray for the guidance of Our Holy Father, as he begins to make decisions of substance.I may be wron…

In the lead up to the recent Conclave to elect the new Pope, the assembled Cardinals met on several occasions to hear various of their members speak on matters they believed important to the deliberations of those among them who, by virtue of age would be the Cardinal Electors in Conclave.

Yesterday the great Father George Byers of Holy Souls Hermitage Blog published the following Post. Reporting the proposal put to the Cardinals by the then Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires Argentina, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, which have become of special interest since His Eminence became His Holiness Pope Francis.

New post on HOLY SOULS HERMITAGEThe Bergoglio Conclave Interventionby Holy Souls Hermitage Bergoglio's Intervention: A diagnosis of the problems in the Church 2013-03-27 Vatican Radio -- The archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Lucas Ortega y Alamino, on Saturday read from a document given him by Pope Francis, outlining the speech he g…

POPE FRANCIS
The Holy Father Pope Francis, is travelling to Sweden to commemorate the beginning of the year leading up to next years 500th Anniversary of  the Protestant Deformation - in effect to commemorate (not celebrate) Martin Luther, What more do we know about Martin Luther? Let us have yet another look:

A Warning from St Thomas More on Luther: “The gentle reader must forgive me if much that occurs offends his feelings. Nothing has been more painful to me than to be compelled to pour such things into decent ears. The only other alternative would, however, have been to leave the unclean book untouched.”

Luther and the Jews

“…..and Luther, if he could be with us, would give us his blessing.” ADOLF HITLER(“Hitler’s Speeches”, edited by Professor N. H. Baynes (Oxford, 1942), page 369).

(The quotes below are from” Hitler’s Spiritual Ancestor” by Peter F Wiener - who does not  appear to be a Catholic.)
“The Jews are our blood-friends, cousins and brothers of our Lord. No people has been so dis…

“For, like his doctrines and his writings, Luther’s life was a mass of contradictions arising from the neurotic temperament” (Funck-Brentano).

From early youth, Luther was a very neurotic character. He had an extremely strict upbringing and tells us himself that

GETTING TO KNOW POPE FRANCIS SEVENTH POST

This Post first appeared on 30th March, 2013.

There had been no Episcopal Appointments since Pope Benedict XVI's abdication and one can imagine Cardinal Marc Ouellet Prefect of the Congregation of Bishops must have a bulging file to present to the new Holy Father. He has made one Appointment - that of his own successor as Archbishop of Buenos Aires , he is Mario Aurelio Poli who has had a distinguished Priestly and Episcopal role in Education at a variety of levels including at Major Seminary and University, and has been until now Bishop of Santa Rosa. One can well imagine the Holy Father with paternal affection for his former flock choosing to make this his first Appointment.

But what of Cardinal Ouellet's bulging file? And for that matter how will Pope Francis approach the task. Not every Pope I am sure, would go about it in the same way. No doubt different Popes will question the recommendations put to them to different degrees and in different ways. It may well be that diffe…
