GETTING IT RIGHT

Image
This article appeared in the American  Website "National Review Online" and has been widely publicised by CHURCH MILITANT TV. It is  an excellent response to the widespread  misinterpretation of the Holy Father's Apostolic Exhortation.

That  being said, I do believe that the language used in the Exhortation is, in large part, responsible for triggering the misinterpretation. But please read this and spread the truth about what the Holy Father said:

The Little Flowers of Pope Francis The personally convicting message of Evangelii Gaudium By Bishop James D. Conley                                  BISHOP JAMES CONLEY OF LINCOLN,NEBRASKA There is a point to the popular mythology about Saint Francis of Assisi. Obviously, the emasculated bard of the 1972 film Brother Sun, Sister Moon is a mostly insipid caricature. Saint Francis of Assisi was much more than an animal-loving peacenik with an odd haircut.

But the popular my…

BRISBANE ORATORY ANOTHER DELIBERATE STEP

To-day we bring you more good news direct from the website of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation:

Oratory priests appointed to Brisbane parish Posted by on Dec 13, 2013 in Latest News Today we can announce that a further step has been taken towards the foundation of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation. Archbishop Mark Coleridge has appointed both Fr Sharp and Fr Chandler to the same parish effective January 4th 2014. Fr Sharp will be Parish Priest of Mary Immaculate Parish, Annerley on the south side of Brisbane. Fr Chandler will be priest-in-residence as he completes his doctoral studies. This is an opportunity for a preparatory stage which will lead to the formal and public establishment of the Oratory hopefully mid-year 2015. The Brisbane Oratory in Formation is immensely grateful to His Grace for this supportive decision.

PERSONALISING THE PAPACY

Image
"PRAVDA" and "IZVESTIA" were the two newspapers of the former Soviet Union. Their names meant "TRUTH" and "NEWS" respectively and wags used to say that there was no news in the "TRUTH" and no truth in the "NEWS"!

Well, for some time I have come to regard the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with something of the same scepticism. Its own policy agenda, be it homosexual, climate change/global warming,Buddhist,Anti Catholic, feminist etc has gradually infected its News and its ability to publish the truth.

But this morning on Radio National, I heard  a comment which instantly struck me as very perceptive and true! Of course it did not come from an ABC staffer, but from a U.K. correspondent who was being questioned on the subject of Pope Francis' selection as TIME Magazine's Man of the Year.

In the course of his comments this fellow, whose name I did not catch stated that Pope Francis " has personalised the Papacy&qu…

THE FRANCIS WEDGE THE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE OF NEW STYLE PAPACY

THE CAMAURO MIGHT HAVE A PURPOSE ?
The free wheeling approach of the Holy Father to making public utterances and off the cuff homilies at his morning Masses, has been a great boon for those clerics who are either out and out dissidents  or flirt with dissent, or just like to do their own thing. "Who am I to judge?" they quote with glee!

But of late some of the Franciscan chickens have been coming home to roost, and it just may be that the Holy Father is having forced in on him that " I did it my way" is best left to the realm of entertainment.

Pope John XXIII and the Camauro

Pope Benedict XVI and the Camauro

The scandal causing interview with the atheist magazine editor Scalifaro has been taken down from the Vatican website. And the Holy Father, in homily after homily  has been explicitly hammering home the strict orthodox teaching of the Catholic Church even in areas where some of his more vague statements have caused Media flutters and consternation amongst the fait…

IT ENDED 450 YEARS AGO TRENT THE COUNCIL THAT WORKED

Image
THE COUNCIL MET HERE
Europe and England were in turmoil. The activities of the dissident Augustinian Priest Martin Luther and the unadmitted  heretic King Henry VIII had , between them, deformed the Catholic Church in the name of reform. It was the largest fraud in history.

The scandal and dis-order which these events had brought about within the Church needed an effective response, but, for a long time, in the most human of ways , the Church dithered. At first it was thought that the drink driven Priest could be contained, but he remained defiant having obtained political backing from local nobles.

The evolution of the Protestant Deformation can be highlighted as follows:

1517  Father Martin Luther pins his "95 Theses" to the door of the Church in Wittenberg chiefly complaining of alleged abuses  relating to the conditions for Indulgences.  He was then 34 yrs of age and had 29 years to live.

THE "DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY"

Image
A day on which we remember a young Catholic Priest who gave his life acting in Persona Christi just 72 years ago to-day, and pray for his intercession on behalf of our new Priest.

"Haec Dies"...This is the day, but unlike the prayer which goes on "..which the Lord has made...", this is the day , the anniversary of the day,  "which will live in infamy". For to-day is the 72nd  Anniversary of the cowardly Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour which began the War in the Pacific.

Father Aloysius Schmitt was a 32 yrs old Catholic Priest, serving in the United States Navy as a Chaplain with the rank of Lieutenant(JG) -Junior Grade. He served on one of the United States'Navy's Pacific Fleet Battleships - U.S.S. OKLAHOMA . Sunday morning had dawned beautifully at his Pacific island base.Father's day began like any other in his recently-commenced Naval career as Chaplain ,which had commenced nearly 6 months ago on 28th June. He celebrated Holy …

LITURGICAL REFORM 50 YEARS STILL NOT EFFECTED

Image
Little did I know how my life would change. In fact , on that fateful day 50 years ago, long before the Internet age, I had no idea that anything had happened. But in far off Rome, the Second Vatican Council was issuing its very first document : the "Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy" entitled "SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM" on this day, 4th December, 1963 - exactly 50 years ago to-day.

The world was still reeling from the news of the appalling assasination, Of President John F. Kennedy only 13 days earlier and the murder of his believed assassin only 11 days earlier and the solemn , dramatic funeral of the late President only 10 days earlier. Little wonder the document did not have much public impact.

In fact, when the Bishops of the World were asked to make submissions Preparatory to the Council to its Secretariat, the Australian Bishops had no suggestions to make on the reform of the Sacred Liturgy.

Yet SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM was to be the first document issued by the Co…
