WHERE DOES THIS COME FROM?

AUSTRALIA DAY !

To-day I re-post with some minor amendment, some thoughts on AUSTRALIA DAY which I posted last year. Since our readers come from many corners of the globe , it seems appropriate that they should know something about the Country that has nurtured this Blogger, the product of Irish, German and English ancestry, and his feelings and beliefs about it. AUSTRALIA
"CORE OF MY HEART, MY COUNTRY"

To-day is Australia Day! I thank God for bringing me to Conception and Birth in this remarkable Country.
Not the most beautiful country in the world, not the strongest country in the world, not the leading country in the world. You can have all that.
My Country is a place of real freedom, of real peace, of frank and trustworthy folk, whose friendship isn't feigned. An open, generally trusting people who are nevertheless not too easily fooled. They abhor pretension and if they have a fault it is a desire to ensure that no-one rises too high - it is called the "tall poppy s…

FAREWELL FATHER MARIUSZ ADAMCZYK SDS

It brought back memories of a bygone era : a church packed tight, and a congregation making resounding, unified responses . The purpose of their gathering at the 9.30 am Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart Church Pymble, was to farewell their Curate of eight years, Father Mariusz Adamczyk who has been posted to Balcatta W.A. in the suburbs of Perth.

The Parish Bulletin recorded, courtesy of Parish Priest Father Zygmunt  "Szygy" Wloczek, the fact that, in his eight years in the Parish, Father Mariusz had celebrated over 325 Baptisms, 35 Weddings and 110 Funerals and innumerable Holy Masses and Confessions. In his farewell address Father Mariusz spoke lovingly and movingly about the  Parish and its people, and with warm appreciation for Father Szygy. For once one could not quibble at the parishoners prolonged applause and standing ovation for their beloved Priest. Anyone seeking a better understanding of their affection need only read our Post from the …

TOLERANCE , LOVE AND LABELS

Image
The words of Our Lord Jesus Christ are of critical importance for mankind - this is God Himself speaking directly to Man. So that when He gives us a command we have no more important thing to do.But did He do that?

" A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another." And the Lord goes on to say : " By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:34)

That is crystal clear.

But in the modern Western world an alternative is proposed and generally accepted unthinkingly because it has become " politically correct" . TOLERANCE is the civic ideal. But we need to remember that mere tolerance is NOT a Christian Virtue. Love is what is expected of us , for as we are told, where there is Love , there is God for"God is Love"( 1 John 4:8).

What is the nature of the " Love" proposed? Saint Thomas  Aquinas tells us that Love means wanting …

WHO WILL TAKE THE POISONED CHALICES ?

Image
As the months roll by, it is becoming painfully obvious that possible appointees to Australia's vacant or available Sees must be declining the challenges offered. In human terms, one can easily understand that reaction in a number of those Sees such as Rockhampton, where the incumbent has been told that his resignation tendered even before his August , 2012 75th Birthday, has been accepted . He communicated this to his Priests at the time, but said it would not be effective for some time. Whoever is appointed as Bishop Heenan's successor will have a tough task to restore the Diocese to Catholic orthodoxy. Bishop Heenan has held the view that important Encyclicals and Letters Motu Proprio " don't apply to us". The local Diocesan structures churn out material which would require serious revision to become consistent with Catholic teaching and practice. In human terms the next Bishop will face an enormous task in dealing with the idealogues entrenched in positions o…

BISHOP MICHAEL PUTNEY - SERIOUS ILLNESS

Image
Our readers will be familiar with the name of Bishop Michael Putney of Townsville Diocese in northern Queensland.

It has been officially announced that His Lordship is suffering from inoperable cancer of the stomach and the liver. The Bishop has said that he is at peace with the situation and rests his condition in God's hands.

We ask readers to pray for Bishop Putney , that his sufferings may be reduced and we ask readers also to pray for the future of the Diocese of Townsville.

NO NEED TO CLERICALISE THE LAYFOLK

THIS IS " FULL AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION"

"The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists. It is the sacrifice, dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, and repeated every day on the altar. If you wish to hear Mass as it should be heard, you must follow with eye , heart and mouth, all that happens at the altar. Further, you must pray with the Priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ and which Christ says by him. You have to associate your heart with the holy feelings which are contained in these words and in this manner you ought to follow all that happens at the altar. When acting in this way you have prayed Holy Mass."

Pope Saint Pius X

It was Pope Saint Pius X who first introduced the concept of full and active participation. Here we see his intention, so clearly consistent with Catholic belief. But, in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, the phrase - in Latin "participatio actuosa"( that is in spirit, heart and mi…
