TWO ADMIRABLE TOUGH COOKIES : CARDINAL GEORGE PELL AND FATHER THERRY

Image
Readers unfamiliar with St. Benedict's Broadway,Sydney might care to also see:

Father Therry of whom His Eminence speaks with admirable candour below, was indeed a great hero of the Church by any measure. He had born the heat of the day for many years, and it is true he was not always easy to get along with. But the cause was sensitivity and volatility and never arrogance, as the following story shows.A young Priest ordained only a few years , Dr William Bernard Ullathorne  O.S.B.( 1806 -1889) was appointed Vicar General for the Colony of New South Wales and Van Dieman's Land in 1833. He had been ordained Priest in September ,1831. In less than 2 years he had responsibility for the whole of Australia as it would become, but was not yet. Born in 1806, he was about 27!
He arrived in the Colony unannounced. He already knew a great deal about the personalities and difficulties of the colonial Church via the Vicar Apostolic in London and others. He was well aware of Father Therry'…

BISHOP DAVID LOUIS WALKER OF BROKEN BAY A FATHER TO HIS PRIESTS? FIT FOR MISSION?

Image
Here is the heartfelt text of a Senior Priest of the Broken Bay Diocese. It deserves to be presented in full. The Bishop's effective response was to publish a document ON CHRISTMAS EVE  2011 -  a measure of the cynical hope to have the minimum scrutiny.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE BISHOP OF BROKEN BAY FROM A PRIEST OF THE DIOCESE Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may sometimes be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. (C. S. Lewis, God in the Dock) Bishop, On Thursday, 11th November 2010, at a Meeting of the Bishop, Priests and Principals of the Diocese, you gave a presentation entitled, Eight Issues Facing the Church in Broken Bay. The third of those eight issues was ‘how to …

DWINDLING DAYS - TROUBLED WATERS IN BROKEN BAY - BROKEN COMMUNION?

THE WHEELS ARE COMING OFF THE "NEW CHURCH" WAGON
IN BROKEN BAY DIOCESE

Seemingly emboldened by his approaching 75th Birthday, now 20 months away, one of Australia's dwindling band of "New Church"Bishops, David Walker of Broken Bay Diocese has at last pushed his Clergy too far it would seem. They realise of course, that what is being done to Father Martin is not only an abuse of power and contrary to Canon Law, but could happen to them. The Bishop has a record on Priest "bashing"( for those unused to Australian colloquialism, the term means denigration). A dubious"achievement" for one who is supposed to be a father to his Priests!!

PLEASE PRAY FOR FATHER MARTIN AYE NGWE AND THE PEOPLE OF WAHROONGA PARISH AND FOR THE PRIESTS OF BROKEN BAY DIOCESE. AND PRAY FOR THE EARLY RETIREMENT OF THE BISHOP OF BROKEN BAY.

URGENT PRAYERS FOR A PRIEST

Image
For the first time, I am asking for you very urgent prayers for fortitude, wisdom and spiritual consolation for a Priest who has only done great good, who is being put under intense hostile pressure for defending what is right.

Sadly, this hostile treatment is coming from one bound in conscience to be his father and supporter. This is part of a systematic attempt to undermine Catholic discipline, tradition and Canon Law.

This Blog will rarely be petitioning you in this way. But this is an exceptional occasion , which may have implications for very many Priests, Parishes and people. Your unstinting prayers can do immense good. Thanks and God Bless you all!

THREE NOTABLE THINGS AT THIS MORNING'S MASS

Image
Mass at Sacred Heart Church Pymble this morning was at 9.00 a.m. It was notable for three things:

Firstly, as in every Mass, the ever awe-inspiring re-presentation of the Holy Sacrifice of Calvary, in which the Priest Father Mariusz Adamczyk S.D.S., acting in Persona Christi, consecrated the bread and wine and our Divine Lord, Body,Blood, Soul and Divinity became present on the Altar and then came t the 50 or so present in Holy Communion, took place. If that only happened once in ALL HISTORY, it would exceed anything Man would ever witness. How fortunate we Catholics are that it happens for us daily! Do we become too familiar with this every day WONDER?

Secondly, as in every Catholic Church around the world on this Thursday of the First Week in Lent, one of my very favourite prayers was recited:

"Lord,
  may everything we do
  begin with your inspiration,
  continue with your help,
and reach perfection under your guidance.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son,
  Who live…

Caption Competition... As word filters back from those who braved Madrid with their young pilgrims, it seems the fond memories of Sydney were arrested fairly quickly by certain Spanish truths...

Upon the head of this Bishop and champion of Thine, O Lord, we place the helmet of defense and salvation; that, head thus adorned and crowned with the horns of both Testaments, he may appear fiercesome to the enemies of truth. Pontificale Romanum, 1962
Our thanks to the pilgrim who shared this pearl!
